Full Red Submersion

Everybody needs their space. Everyone has their comfort zone, their bubble, their line that you just do not cross. We keep our guards up, because the world is constantly hitting us with its battering ram. We wall ourselves off, because we know what it’s like to feel exposed. We wall ourselves off, because we value the things we’ve already lost.

When those walls feel like they’re closing in, it’s because someone is pushing on them. When we don’t feel like ourselves, it’s because someone has gotten under our skin. When we wake up on the wrong side of the bed, it’s because the thing that haunts our dreams is lying on the other side.

We’re always told our problems come from within, this piece is about the times they come from without.

Full Red Submersion

There are sharks in your water
There are vultures in your air
There are lions giving you
That thousand-yard stare

There are wolves in your pathway
There are gators at your shore
There are people who can’t
Hold their tongues back anymore

They are making a mad dash
They are running through your mind
You keep dragging
Keep limping
Keep lagging behind

(And they’re coming to get you)

Head for the hills
Someplace they won’t think to lurk
Hide inside a cabin
Watch them come out of the wood work
They’ve got a taste for blood
They want full red submersion
They want in
On your introversion

They are making a mad dash
They are running through your mind
You keep dragging
Keep limping
Keep lagging behind

They are coming to eat you up
They are coming to suck you dry
When there’s nothing left to take
They are gonna try
There are snakes in your plumbing
There are termites in your wall
The spiders are inside of you
Can’t you see them crawl?

They want full red submersion
They want in on your introversion

Profoundly true and sums up my feelings of late.

As for the poem – great imagery that makes the reader feel like they’re being hemmed in by a predator.
